How to Maintain Glowing, Oil-Free Skin During the Monsoon?

Though monsoons come as a great rescue from the scorching summer heat, the spike in humidity levels disturbs the skin’s sebum balance and makes it oily and more prone to acne. Don’t worry, you are not alone in this. The below mentioned tweaks are great for keeping the skin glowing and oil-free this monsoon:

  1. Gentle face cleansing – Raised levels of humidity in monsoons make the role of cleansing very important, but limit it to twice a day as extra cleansing strips away the natural oil of the skin too. Gentle and sulfate-free cleansers work best, especially the one containing salicylic acid and tea tree oil.
  2. Moisturizer is a must – It might feel counterintuitive, but oily skin still needs hydration. Skipping moisturizer can actually signal your skin to produce more oil. Switch to a lightweight, oil-free, or gel-based moisturizer with hyaluronic acid or glycerin that hydrates without clogging pores.
  3. Matte-finish sunscreen is non-negotiable – Clouds are not protective against the sun’s UV rays. So application of sunscreen is non-negotiable and it should be of matte-finish. Choose SPF of 30 or above.
  4. Weekly or biweekly skin exfoliation – Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, preventing breakouts. However, harsh scrubs can irritate skin, especially in the monsoon. Opt for chemical exfoliants like AHA/BHA once or twice a week, depending on your skin type.
  5. Use blotting paper – If you do not want to spoil your makeup and skincare, use a blotting paper throughout the day. They work by absorbing the skin oil and doesn’t let it dry too.
  6. Heavy makeup is a bog no-no – Go for lightweight, breathable makeup or opt for tinted moisturizers and mineral powders instead of heavy foundations. Heavy makeup combined with sweat and moisture can clog pores, causing breakouts.
  7. Light food and hydration is crucial – Limit down the consumption of oily and fried foods during monsoons and shift on consuming fresh fruits and vegetables and also keep sipping plenty of water.

Conclusion –

Both AM and PM skincare regime is crucial for maintaining a healthy and glowing skin in monsoons. Just consistent care and your skin will show results.
